Why You Need Turmeric in Your Beauty Routine

If you love Indian food like I do, you’re probably familiar with turmeric, a spice that is often used in Indian cooking. It’s anti-inflammatory and a great anti-oxidant, and lauded as a superfood in many circles.

What you may NOT know is that turmeric is actually a beauty SUPERHERO.

Here’s some GREAT reasons to start incorporating it into your beauty routine:

  1. It’s great for all skin-types. Whether you have oily skin, dry skin, or a combination- tumeric works it’s magic.
  2. It has anti-aging properties.  Turmeric is a great exfoliant and will keep your skin looking youthful. Mix equal parts garbanzo flour + turmeric to create a mask that will make your skin glow.
  3. It helps keep acne at bay and heals scars. Turmeric’s is anti-bacterial and promotes healing, and is great for fighting acne. Mix it with a little bit of lemon juice and water to help clear any pesky zits.
  4. It helps with stretch marks. Mix turmeric with yogurt, honey and garbanzo flour + use the paste on your stretch marks to help lighten them.
  5. It heals burns. Turmeric’s anti-septic properties are great for healing burns- mix with Aloe Vera gel and get double the power.

If you’re not super into the DIY beauty thing, fear not. There are some great beauty products you can buy that have turmeric as a main ingredient. This mask from Kiehl’s for example, is a dream.  It makes your skin glow and is great for fighting acne.

This Vitamin C serum from Andalou also packs the turmeric punch + I’m also a fan of this cheap, but effective turmeric soap.

The one thing to watch out for when you’re making DIY turmeric masks is that you may find yourself looking a little yellow. I like using a good astringent post-mask, to really take off the turmeric.
