The Short Hair Styling Guide

It’s always during the beginning of summer that I see more and more girls chopping off their long locks in favor of something a little more edgy and short. I love seeing girls in pixies and bobs- short hair is such a chic (and practical) summer hair style! I know it can seem daunting to cut it all off, and many people think that short hair means less versatility when it comes to style.

That’s why I wanted to write this short hair style guide. You can also check out my Pinterest board dedicated to cute short haircuts + styles.

Pixie Cut

I love it when I see a girl with a cute pixie cut. Whenever my clients ask me about cutting their hair into a pixie, the number one worry they seem to have is styling options. That’s why I made these two video below showing you all the different ways you can style and accessorize a pixie cut.  It’s not a one-trick pony, that’s for sure.

The trick to really rocking a short, short hair cut is to make sure it’s truly tailored to your face. What looks good on someone with a heart-shaped face, may look strange on someone with a really angular, long face. Make sure you work with your hair stylist to find a style that flatters your face + leaves you feeling happy!

Short Bob

If you’re not quite ready to go super super short, but still want to take a bit of length off of your hair, consider the chin-grazing, short bob. It’s super classy and chic, but still has that youthful feel to it.  There are multiple ways to style it + ANOTHER BIG PLUS-  it’s super easy to give yourself a blow-out. Check out my how-to videos below and chop chop!

The Lob

Now, if you’re super scared of the commitment that is cutting your hair, then The Lob is the hair cut for you.  It’s a shoulder-grazing bob that can have many variations.  It’s a great baby-step towards chopping your hair off, and since it’s shoulder length you can almost style it like long hair. Check out my video below for some cool ways to style a long bob. (A good variation on the lob is the Swag– a rock-and-roll, Saint Laurent style shag that looks good on everybody!)

Have you ever cut your hair short? Which one of these short styles would you rock?

  • I think that if my hair was thicker I’d maybe be brave enough to go shorter. But now I feel that if I did my hair would just look so sad.
