Perfect Blonde

With summertime around the corner, it’s no wonder that I’m getting more and more request to turn people into blonde bombshells. Whether it’s a couple of highlights, a honey-do, or the big P(latinum) – everyone is trying to lighten up!

One of the big questions I get asked is “what color blonde is right for me”. The answer to that really depends. If you’re going for a more natural look, then I factor in your skin tone + eye color (more on that below). But if you’re wanting to go for a drastic change-up in the form of white-blonde/silver, the main thing I consider is if you’ll be able to follow the maintenance plan that bleaching your head to the whitest form of white entails.

What to Consider

If you’re going for a natural looking blonde, the first thing you should do is to consider your skin tone.  If you’ve got a darker or yellow skin, you’ll want to go the route of honey-carmel. If you’re a pale or rosey-skinned lady, opt for a more ashy tone.

Next, you’ll want to think about what sort of level of maintenance you can commit to. An all over color-change, especially in the platinum department is going to require a lot of upkeep + monthly visits to your salon. Having perfect blonde hair can be quite the investment, both financially and time wise.

A good alternative is getting balayage ombre or highlights. This adds blonde to your hair, but grows out looking natural.

The best way to find a blonde that suits you is to find a model or actress that has a similar skin tone/eye color to yours and seeing what sort of blonde works on them.  Bring a photo or two to your colorist to make sure they’re on the same page as you!

Post-Salon Care

Now that you’ve achieved your perfect blonde, it’s ALL ABOUT MAINTENANCE. Check out this video on keeping your hair brass free:

Make sure you use a really good shampoo and conditioner- ESPECIALLY conditioner.  The last thing you want is for your hair to dry out and look like straw. I like to do a hydrating hair mask 1-2 times a week  + I swear by this leave-in conditioner.

Also, make sure you are using the right kind of toner for your blonde– it’s so vital!
